The actor plays a former military man investigating a lethal sniper attack in the action thriller
The first trailer for upcoming Tom Cruise movie Jack Reacher has appeared online.
Paramount Pictures released the two-minute teaser clip to Yahoo! yesterday (July 3) to mark the star’s 50th birthday. Last week it was revealed that Cruise and wife Katie Holmes are to divorce after five years of marriage.
Jack Reacher stars Cruise as a former military police officer who becomes involved in the investigation of a lethal sniper attack in a US city. It is based on the novel One Shot by British author Lee Child. Cruise’s casting has drawn criticism from some fans of the novel, who feel that the actor lacks the stature to portray Reacher. The character written by Child is said to stand at 6ft 5in tall and have a 50-inch chest.
Jack Reacher is being directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Olson. Cruise has a producing role on the film. McQuarrie previously worked with Cruise on 2008’s Valkyrie and won an Oscar for his screenplay to 1995’s The Usual Suspects.
Jack Reacher, which also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and Werner Herzog, is scheduled to open in the US on December 21 and in the UK on December 28. Press ‘play’ below to watch the trailer.
