'I Saw The Light' will be directed by Marc Abraham

Tom Hiddleston will play country singer Hank Williams in an upcoming biopic.

The British actor will take on the role of Williams in I Saw The Light, which will be directed by Marc Abraham.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the screenplay, also written by Williams, is based on Colin Escott’s biography of the country and western singer. Aaron L. Gilbert, Brett Ratner and G. Marq Roswell are all on board to produce. Filming will begin in Louisina in October.

I Saw The Light has secured rights to the Williams music catalogue and the film will include Williams’ songs including ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,’ ‘Hey Good Lookin” and ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’.

Hiddleston, who will sing in the film, is best known for playing Loki in The Avengers and Thor. He has also appeared in War Horse and Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris. His next projects, besides I Saw The Light, include a big screen adaptation of JG Ballard’s High-Rise and Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak.
