Reaction to the cult film sequel has been positive so far

The Trainspotting 2 trailer was released earlier today (November 3) and fans have been reacting to the first in-depth look at the long-awaited sequel.

Trainspotting 2 – billed officially as T2 Trainspotting – will see the original cast of the 1996 movie, including stars Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle, team up again with director Danny Boyle. It will be released on January 27, 2017 in the UK and February 3 in the US.

The trailer sees all the main original characters (Renton, Spud, Sick Boy, Begbie and Diane) reunite, with a modern update of the first film’s classic voiceover: “Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares.” Read the full updated ‘Choose Life’ monologue here.

The response to the trailer has been largely positive, with one fan writing that she hopes the film will be as good as the trailer. Another fan wrote on Twitter that it looked “way better than I was expecting” and another added that it “did not disappoint”.

However, others are more sceptical, with some raising doubts over whether a sequel was necessary. “Just let a great thing be,” one social media user wrote, another arguing that it look like “they’ve made the same movie twice”.

Fans have also been hailing the selection of Wolf Alice for the soundtrack. While starting with Underworld’s classic ‘Born Slippy’, which featured heavily in the first movie, Wolf Alice song ‘Silk’ soundtracks the second part of the trailer.
