Vin Diesel’s new ‘Riddick’ movie given official release date

The third instalment in the dark sci-fi saga will arrive in US cinemas next September (2013)

Vin Diesel’s new Riddick movie now has an official release date.

Universal Pictures has announced that the sci-fi sequel will arrive in US cinemas on September 6, 2013, Deadline reports. However, the film’s UK opening has yet to be confirmed.

The film, simply titled Riddick, is the third instalment in the dark sci-fi saga. Diesel first played antihero Richard B Riddick in 2000’s Pitch Black before returning for 2004’s The Chronicles Of Riddick. Both films were written and directed by David Twohy.

Twohy has also served as writer-director on the new movie. Karl Urban, who played the villainous Vaako in The Chronicles Of Riddick, has reprised his role, while Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff (pictured) is a new addition to the cast.

Shortly before he returns as Riddick, Diesel will be seen in Fast And Furious 6, which is due for release in May 2013. Meanwhile, the smooth-skulled actor is now planning to revive the iconic character of Kojak in a new movie from the writers of Skyfall.
