Watch Hugh Jackman save his children from riptide during Bondi Beach rescue

Actor leaped to the defense of son Oscar and daughter Ava yesterday (March 26)

Hugh Jackman was on hand to rescue swimmers caught in a rip on Sydney’s Bondi beach.

The actor, best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men films, launched into action when his two children (Oscar, 15, and ten-year-old daughter Ava), found themselves in trouble on Saturday (March 26).

Video footage shows the actor bringing Oscar and another swimmer to shore on Saturday before returning to help swimmer Peter Adam with Ava. Speaking to the Nine Network, Peter Adam explained how he grabbed Ava and then linked hands with Jackman to pull her to safety.

“His daughter was struggling to get on to the sand bar so I reached down, grabbed her arm and put my arm up to Hugh to make a chain to pull us up on the sand bar,” he said. “That’s what you do with any family out there.”

Another man, Dan Conn said he helped drag the children to saftey but that Oscar was again carried out by the current. “I think he was under a bit of pressure with the two kids at once but he was pretty cool, calm and collected, as Hugh always is I suppose,” he said.

Jackman was said to be too shaken to speak to TV crews after the incident while the beach was closed for a short while after the incident.
