Fiona Apple has been arrested in Texas for possession of cannabis.

The singer and pianist, who released her fourth album 'The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw, And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do' on June 19 was arrested at a border stop in Texas, according to TMZ.

Police claim they found hashish – a strong form of cannabis – on the singer's tour bus. They claim to have found a small amount of the substance.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in Sierra Blanca, at the same spot where Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg have previously been arrested for drugs in the past.

The 35-year-old singer is currently being held at Hudspeth County Jail.

Apple's latest album is the follow up to to her third album 'Extraordinary Machine', and her first studio offering for seven years. ?Her debut record, 'Tidal', was released in 1996 and she received a Grammy for Best female Rock Vocal Performance from the single 'Criminal', which was released from that album in 1998.
