Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has spoken out about his row with Erykah Badu by saying that the singer is hankering after controversy.

Badu blasted Coyne earlier this week (June 7) after he leaked an unapproved edit of the highly NSFW video to 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face', from 'The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends' collaborations album, and told him to "kiss my glittery ass".

Speaking to BBC 6 Music at the Parklife Weekender festival in Manchester, however, Coyne insisted that the video was "wonderful" and claimed that Badu's public display of rage was a means of garnering publicity.

"She is a controversial entity in the world," he said of Badu. "So everything that she does has an element of her doing art."
He added:

This video to me is not controversial, it's wonderful and I think Erykah knew she could play into it if we made a video that could be perceived as derogatory. Otherwise I don't think she'd be interested in it. I think [her reaction] is still in the realm of a creation of controversy.

'The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends' was originally released as a double vinyl album for this year's Record Store Day, but it will now be released on CD and digitally on June 25. The LP sees Coyne and co teaming up with a variety of artists including Ke$ha, Bon Iver, Yoko Ono, Nick Cave, My Morning Jacket and Tame Impala.
