The Flaming Lips have recruited artists including MGMT, Tame Impala and Miley Cyrus for a remake of The Beatles' album 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.'

Wayne Coyne, frontman with the US band, shared a picture of Cyrus in the studio with him last week (March 14). It has now been revealed that the pair were working together on a much bigger project. Cyrus will appear on the album alongside MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden with a remake of 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds'.

Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips revealed in a new interview that Coyne is contacting Tame Impala, Phantogram and Foxygen to possibly contribute, while New Fumes and Brooke Kelty have also tweeted about their involvement.

"I've been doing stuff with Foxygen, they're my favourite band at the moment," Drozd told Rock Sucker. "We're trying to get them to do a Sgt. Pepper track, I think we’re talking to MGMT, trying to get a bunch of different bands. We've done a couple of these things but I think Wayne is trying to make this one a little more high-profile, more stuff going on, more things connected. It’s still in the very early stages though, so I can’t say too much about it… Tame Impala – they would definitely be on the list… I'm sure Wayne will try to get Phantogram to do a track for the Beatles record."

Earlier this year, Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips, joined Cyrus during her gig at LA's Staples Center for a rendition of their classic song 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part 1'.

'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' will be the latest record in The Flaming Lips' project of covering classic albums in full having previously covered The Stone Roses' debut album as well as King Crimson's 'In The Court Of The Crimson King'. Earlier this year the band covered 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' alongside Sean Lennon on US TV show Letterman.
