Fleet Foxes mesmerised a packed house at the Echo on Saturday night (June 28) at the first of two consecutive sold-out Los Angeles shows.

The Seattle rockers offered up spot-on harmonies and Americana-tinged melodies from their recently-released self-titled debut album during their hour-long set at the sweltering venue.

Frontman Robin Pecknold earnestly thanked the LA crowd for coming out to see them, to which drummer Nicholas Peterson added, "Whenever we're in LA we like to hang out with The Killers."

In addition to recent album tracks 'White Winter Hymnal' and 'He Doesn't Know Why', the bearded band played an a cappella version of 'Sun Giant', the title track from a Fleet Foxes EP released earlier this year.

Pecknold performed many of the songs with his eyes tightly shut, and during his intimate solo acoustic numbers the crowd remained eerily quiet.

A broken guitar string put a slight hitch in the proceedings, but the band took full advantage of the break. "The moment is right - it's time for our jazz odyssey," keyboardist Casey Wescott quipped as a mirror ball lit up the room and the band played a brief jazz riff.

"Thanks for bearing with us - it's the first time we've ever broken a string," Pecknold said when the band returned with a repaired guitar for a stunning encore of 'Blue Ridge Mountains'.
