Seattle quintet beat off the likes of Radiohead, Elbow and The Raconteurs

Fleet Foxes have scooped the first ever Uncut Music Award.

The band received the gong for the "most rewarding and inspiring album" of the past twelve months from our sister title Uncut.

The band were unanimously named as the winner from a panel of industry judges including radio DJ Mark Radcliffe.

The self titled album beat off competition from Radiohead, Nationwide Mercury Prize winners Elbow, The Raconteurs and Vampire Weekend to win the title.

Speaking to Uncut.co.uk the band's frontman Robin Pecknold said: "It makes us want to step up our game. I see it as you throwing down the gauntlet – now we have to live up to it.

"Obviously prizes are not something you should think about or hope for when you're making music. I hope our next album isn't like an awards grab, like the equivalent of a Clint Eastwood movie, y'know, Oscar bait."

See Uncut.co.uk for more information.

This is rightly deserved. I'm glad they are getting the recognition. Their debut is definitely the album of the year. Saw them in Manchester on Sunday and it was just incredible.

Aren't they just 'My Morning Jacket' in pyjamas. How can you get album of the year for recycling what a current band is already doing/done?But in saying that it is a good album mainly because I like My Morning Jacket.

My Morning Jacket in pyjamas? No, they are nothing like that at all. Fleet Foxes sound nothing like them. I'm a huge fan of both bands but MMJ's latest release was weak, especially compared to 2005's Z. There is no doubt that Fleet Foxes debut is album of the year, simply because nothing else comes close to its brilliance. Radiohead wouldnt even be in my top ten of this year.

james4ukjobs you really haven't got a clue you tosser, Fleet Foxes singers voice has similarities to Jim James, but the music couldn't be any different, MMJ are a fusion of electric guitars whereas Fleet Foxes aren't, what a cock you are...
