Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham has revealed that the band have written songs for a possible new studio album - and has said that some of the material is sounding "great".

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the guitarist confirmed that he and his bandmates had been writing new material and also said that some of the tracks could be played during their upcoming reuinion shows, which are set to kick off in April.

Fleetwood Mac's last studio album 'Say You Will' was released 10 years ago, in 2003, but discussing the band's current plans, Buckingham said: "When Stevie [Nicks] was on the road [with her solo album], and not long after her mum had passed away, Mick [Fleetwood], John [McVie] and I got together and we cut a bunch of tracks, and they turned out great.

"[The songs] were all done in Stevie's keys. They were done with her in mind. Subsequently, Stevie and I have gotten together, and she's sung on two of those."

He went on to add: "There's also another track that dates back to Buckingham Nicks that Stevie and I built up from scratch. There's a lot of stuff there. Some of this we will do in the show. We're not pushing it. We're just going to wait and see what everybody wants to hear."

The band's 1977 album 'Rumours' is set to re-enter the UK Top Ten this weekend - 35 years after it first reached Number One. Several deluxe reissue packages were released earlier this week to mark the 35th anniversary of 'Rumours' hitting the top spot on the UK's Official Albums Chart. The album originally came out in February 1977, but did not climb to Number One until January 1978, nearly a year later.

Fleetwood Mac are now gearing up for a massive North American tour, which kicks off in April and runs all the way into July. UK dates have yet to be announced, but Mick Fleetwood has recently hinted that the band could hit Britain in September or October.
