Florence Welch chats about ‘127 Hours’ arm-hack at Oscars

'It's a very emotional moment,' she says ahead of performance

Florence Welch took time to praise 127 Hours ahead of performing a track from the film at last night’s (February 27) Oscars.

The Florence And The Machine singer was speaking on the red carpet at the Los Angeles bash, which saw ‘The King’s Speech’ and Trent Reznor win big.

The frontwoman explained her desire to do the 127 Hours song ‘If I Rise’ justice at the ceremony, as she performed it in place of original singer Dido. The song features in a pivotal moment in the film, which depicts the real-life tale of climber Aron Ralston, who amputated his arm after becoming trapped while on a trip in Utah in 2003.

“When the song comes, it’s a very emotional moment,” Welch told MTV News. “It’s the moment when James Franco [who plays Ralston] realises what he has to do.”

127 Hours was nominated in six categories at the Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Song for ‘If I Rise’. However, it did not pick up any gongs, beaten by The King’s Speech in Best Picture and Randy Newman‘s ‘We Belong Together’ (from Toy Story 3) in the Best Original Song category.

Meanwhile, Welch also confirmed that she’s hard at work on her second album. Watch her on the red carpet by scrolling down and clicking below.
