Florence And The Machine's Florence Welch has insisted she needs to take a break from the music industry before starting work on her next album - and wants to use her time off to write a musical instead.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the 'Ceremonials' singer said that she needed some respite from her hectic schedule so she could "start getting inspired again" and begin working on new songs.

She said: "I've been on tour since I was 21. I need a break and to have the chance to do normal things, like go to the supermarket and hang out with my friends.

"I've only just moved out of my mum's house, so I'd like to settle into my new place and start getting inspired again. If I started writing songs now, all they'd be about is tour buses and hotel rooms."

Welch also revealed that she is planning on writing a musical with an old school friend called Sophie Hart-Walsh. "It would be amazing to get it into the World End. That's obviously the dream goal," she said. "We always used to write songs about our lives and sing them to each other. We always said we should make them into a musical."

Florence And The Machine set out on a UK and Ireland arena tour next month. The tour begins at Exeter Westpoint Arena on December 4 and runs until December 12, when the band play Dublin O2 Arena. The trek also includes gigs at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, Liverpool Echo Arena and Aberdeen's AECC.

Florence And The Machine will play:

Exeter Westpoint Arena (December 4)
London O2 Arena (5, 6)
Coventry Ricoh Arena (8)
Aberdeen AECC (9)
Liverpool Echo Arena (10)
Dublin O2 Arena (12)
