Foals have spoken about the pressure to live up to the recent media expectations for their band this year.
The five-piece, whose album ‘Antidotes’ is out March 24, also say they are not doing music for fame, money or celebrity cool unlike many other bands nowadays.
Speaking to the Independent lead singer Yannis Philippakis explained: “Some people want to write songs so they can go to these ceremonies or hang out with new cool people, but for us anything that isn’t about writing music is extraneous to what we are doing this for.”
He added: “We have never come out and said that we are the band for 2008 – that we are going to save culture or kill the president – but all we did was go to New York, got stoned and made a weird record.”
The Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 are coming soon – and it’s time to have your say. Vote now by heading to NME.COM/awardsvote and you could win VIP tickets to the ceremony, which takes place in London on February 28.
