Foals, Gallows, Glasvegas play Underage festival

Plus Florence And The Machine and Lethal Bizzle perform

Foals, Gallows, The Rascals, Glasvegas, Kid Harpoon and The Maccabees were among the acts who performed at the Underage Festival on Friday (August 8) at London's Victoria Park.

The bash was the second time the festival had taken place, after debuting in the UK capital last year. Entry was only available to those aged 14-18 inclusive. Around 10,000 fans attended the festival, with many queuing for hours before the official opening time to gain entry.

Among the highlights of the festival were Gallows, who played a typically frenetic set on the Converse Century Stage.

Frontman Frank Carter leaped into the crowd at the beginning of the set, spending much of his band's stage time in amongst the audience. During the set he hauled a fan out of the crowd and poured water over him following a series of bottles being thrown onto the stage from the crowd.

The band's set included their version of The Ruts' 'Staring At The Rude Boiz', for which they were joined by Lethal Bizzle on rapping duties.

Before Gallows' set Bombay Bicycle Club's Jack Steadman played an acoustic show on the MySpace bus, quipping "this is something you can all relate to", before playing 'Sixteen'.

Fans began climbing onto poles and barrels during Team Waterpolo's 3pm (BST) show on the Topman Stage to get a better view of the band, with many crowdsurfing later in the set.

Foals, playing on the NME Stage at the same time as Gallows' aforementioned set and after Glasvegas, played a set including show-opener 'XXXXXX' and 'The French open'.

The crowd barrier buckled as fans surged forward during Foals' show, with many once more climbing poles to get a good view. One fan leapt a huge distance into the crowd from a lofty position on a pole, but was unharmed.

"Can't we behave like adults?" frontman Yannis Phillipakis asked the crowd, as security guards paused the show amid concerns about crowd safety. "Actually, disregard that advice completely," he continued as the set resumed.
