Foals played the first of two huge London shows last night (February 14) at London's Alexandra Place.

During the show, which played host to a spectacular light and laser show, frontman Yannis Philippakis told the enthusiastic crowd that the band had been desperate to play a London show during the lengthy promotional run for their 2013 album 'Holy Fire'.

He commented: "We got sent to Timbuktu and back last year, and all we wanted to do was play here," commented Philippakis ahead of the band's two song encore, before telling the crowd that the first time the band played the north London venue was to support Bloc Party in 2007, saying they were "knock-kneed" with nerves during that appearance.

The band, who will play their second Alexandra Palace show tonight (February 15), played a 13 song set drawing from their three albums, including tracks from their second album, 'Total Life Forever', including 'Blue Blood', 'Spanish Sahara' as well as finishing up with an encore of two songs from their 2008 debut 'Antidotes': 'The French Open' and 'Two Steps, Twice'. Tonight's show will bring their current UK tour to a close.

"It feels good to be here - thank you for coming out and spending your Valentine's Day with us," Philippakis told the audience after the second song, 'Hummer' whilst wind howled outside the hilltop venue. The band's set featured an intense light show throughout, with a curtain of lasers featuring during a number of songs, including 'Providence' and 'Spanish Sahara'.

Yesterday Flood and Alan Moulder, who produced 'Holy Fire', won UK producer of the year at the Music Producers Guild Awards, automatically earning them the Brit Award for Producer of the Year. Foals' Edwin Congreave said of the pair's production of the song 'My Number': "Without them we wouldn't have been able to do it. It had a lightness and frivolity to it, but as soon as it went into the studio it had all these different layers," reports BBC News. "They made it into probably one of the best songs we've ever done, I think it's a perfectly produced pop song."

Foals are set to play this summer's Parklife Weekender in Manchester as well headlining Bestival in September.

Foals played:

'Prelude'
'Hummer'
'Olympic Airways'
'My Number'
'Blue Blood'
'Milk and Black Spiders'
'Providence'
'Spanish Sahara'
'Red Socks Pugie'
'Late Night'
'Inhaler'
'The French Open'
'Two Steps, Twice'
