Grohl follows in the footsteps of musical legends including New Order, Manic Street Preachers, The Cure, The Clash, Primal Scream and Paul Weller in being named NME's Godlike Genius.

Giving his reaction to the award that recognises his stellar career in music so far, Grohl told NME: "I don't think I'm godlike or a genius. It’s flattering. It's a nice thing to be acknowledged for doing something you love to do, but in truth I don't consider it a body of work because I don't consider it work."

The Shockwaves NME Awards take place on February 23, after the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour, featuring Crystal Castles, Magnetic Man, Everything Everything and The Vaccines, takes place across the country.
