Dave Grohl has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at next year's South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

The Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer will follow in the footsteps of Bruce Springsteen who delivered the keynote speech at this year's SXSW.

Grohl's talk will take place on March 14, 2013 at the Austin Convention Centre.

Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme recently revealed that Grohl will be drumming on the band's forthcoming new album. Foo Fighters are currently on hiatus, but Grohl is working on his debut documentary as a director, Sound City: Real to Reel, about the iconic Sound City recording studio in Los Angeles.

The music arm of SXSW will take place from March 12-17 next year. Klaxons, Alt-J and Haim were amongst the first wave of acts to be announced for the industry and fan festival.

Los Angeles sister trio Haim appeared at SXSW earlier this year, but this will be Mercury Music Prize winners Alt-J's first time at the event.

SXSW 2013 will also see showcase sets from the likes of Toddla T, Charlotte Church, John Cooper Clarke, Mac DeMarco, Gallows, Islet, Thurston Moore, The Staves, Marnie Stern, Swim Deep, The Blackout, Brendan Benson and The Zombies.

More artists will be announced in the coming months.
