Dave Grohl's documentary Sound Citywill get its world premiere at the Sundance Film festival next year.
The film, which marks Grohl's directorial debut and tells the story of the legendary California recording studio where classics such as Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' and Nirvana's 'Nevermind' were recorded. It will be shown at the US film festival which runs from January 17-27 reports Hollywood Reporter.
The Foo Fighters frontman came up with the concept for the documentary last year, when he bought the Neve 8028 recording console from the studio after they closed down for commercial use in May 2011. Of the film, Grohl has said: "Sound City is a film about America's greatest unsung recording studio. Deep in California's sunburnt San Fernando Valley, it was the birthplace of legend. It was witness to history."
Earlier this year, 'Nevermind' producer Butch Vig told NME that he had been back in the studio with Grohl and his former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic recording material for the film's soundtrack. "We're not really sure how it's all gonna end up at this point but its been fun. There's still quite a bit more work to do and we hope to finish up in the next three or four months, and try get it all mixed and completed some time in the fall," he said.
Grohl previously unveiled a series of teasers for the documentary including artists and producers recalling their memories of the studio. You can watch the clips featuring Pixies' Frank Black, Metallica's Lars Ulrich and producers Rick Rubin and Trent Reznor – below.
