Dave Grohl has revealed that the new Foo Fighters album has now been written.

Grohl has previously teased that the band's next album, the follow-up to 2011's 'Wasting Light', will "not be a conventional record". Now, in a new interview with Xfm, he's hinted that the album will be recorded in some kind of groundbreaking way.

"Well, I'll tell you, we have been in our studio writing and in the past few weeks, we've written an album," he said. "And we are going to make this album in a way that no one's ever done before, and we're pretty excited about it."

However, Grohl admitted that the band has yet to start recording the album and suggested that a 2014 release date is likely, adding: "It's a little way off – it's not ready to happen right now, but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question. It's going to be great, I can't wait."

Speaking in June (2013), Grohl's bandmate Taylor Hawkins revealed that the frontman's brain was "working overtime" on the new Foo Fighters album. "He's got a lot of great ideas, both musically and conceptually, none that I can speak of at this moment, but it's gonna be great. It's gonna be cool," Hawkins said.
