Foo Fighters share gun-toting photos of new album sessions

The band have been recording album number eight at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree

Foo Fighters have shared pictures of the recording sessions for their new album.

Photos of the band’s sessions at the infamous Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, California, have been posted on Instagram, including pictures of Dave Grohl brandishing guns alongside Pat Smear and Chris Goss of hard rock band Masters of Reality. Scroll down for pictures.

A caption by one of the pictures on the Instagram account says that the band recorded for nine days at the desert studio, which is where Josh Homme has recorded with Queens Of The Stone Age as well as being the base for his Desert Sessions project. Arctic Monkeys have also worked there, recording parts of ‘AM’ and ‘Humbug’ at the studio.

Producer Butch Vig recently said that Foo Fighters‘ new album is “almost halfway done”. ‘Nevermind’ producer Vig, who also plays in the band Garbage and is thought to be co-producing with Steve Albini, says the band were experimenting with some challenging recording techniques to keep everyone focused, likening it to the process of recording 2011’s ‘Wasting Light’, which was made in Grohl’s garage.

Speaking to Kerrang, Vig said: “We’ve been recording at some different locations, but we’re almost halfway done with the recording and it’s going well. It sounds different – we’ve thrown a few things into the mix, in the recording process, that are going to give the record a different sound and a different feel. Its been a challenge, but its also been exciting.”

The band revealed in January that sessions for their new album were “fucking on” by posting a picture of a row of master tapes labelled ‘Foo Fighters LP 8’ to their official Instagram. Speaking to BBC Radio 1‘s Zane Lowe, Grohl said, “I know what it sounds like and I honestly think the entire concept is really going to take people by surprise and it sounds nuts.”
