Up to 1,000 Foo Fighters fans in Italy are planning to simultaneously play ‘Learn to Fly’ in order to catch the attention of the band and get them to perform near them.
Through organising what could possibly be the world’s largest cover band, the fans, based in the northern Italian city of Cesena, are hoping that their rendition of Foo Fighters’ 1999 hit will lead to a concert in Italy’s Romagna region. The plan was announced by organisers in a call-to-arms video, which you can watch below.
According to organiser Fabio Zaffagnini’s website, logistically the group will need 250 singers, 350 guitarists, 150 bassists and 250 drummers, as well as volunteers and donations to pull off the feat. The aim is to raise 40,000 Euros.
This follows a precedent set by Foo Fighters fans in Richmond, Virginia, earlier this year, who crowdfunded the city’s first Foo Fighters concert in 16 years. That concert also inspired fans in Birmingham, UK, to do the same, by reaching a target of £150,000 on Kickstarter 53 days ahead of plan.
“We are here to prove to the industry that rock will never die, but we hope that the ticket touting industry does!” organizers of the Birmingam gig said in a promotional video. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl said of that campaign: “It sort of changes the game. For the past 20 years we always decided who we’re going to play with and where we’re going to play. But now, if we hear that people want us to come somewhere, maybe we’ll come there.”
