Foxy Brown sentenced to a year in prison

Judge refuses to give rapper another chance

Foxy Brown was sentenced to a year in prison today, as a result of violating her probation for assault.

The rapper appeared at Manhattan Criminal Court this afternoon (September 7) and was sentenced by Judge Melissa Brown who told her: "I'm not going to give you any more chances. I hope you turn your life around and never again have to stand in a court of law."

Prior to the hearing, Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand appealed to the judge not to imprison her saying "I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to change. I realise that's not where I want to be. It's humbled me in ways I never imagined."

The judge said “it's too little, too late”, according to the Associated Press.

Brown was on three years probation after being charged with assaulting staff at a Chelsea branch of Bloomies nail salon in August 2004.

Late last year Brown was arrested after a separate violent incident in a Floridabeauty shop, and again last month after allegedly assaulting a neighbour in Brooklyn with her mobile phone.

She was also arrested in New Jersey last month for driving offenses.
