Foxy Brown freed from prison

New York City Councilman picks up rapper from jail

Foxy Brown was released from Rikers Island prison in New York today (April 18), after serving eight months of her year-long sentence.

In an unusual move, Brown was greeted upon her release by New York City Councilman Charles Barron. Most inmates are taken from the prison on a bus and delivered to a parking lot but according to Reuters, a Department Of Corrections spokesperson said that Barron had requested to pick up Brown.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was sent to jail after breaking the terms of a three-year probation sentence stemming from an assault on two manicurists at a nail salon in the Chelsea area of New York City.

During her time in prison Brown spent a period in isolation after altercations with other prisoners and with prison officers.

In January, she requested early release to have a hearing implant repaired in California but the request was denied.
