Frames' collaborator gets second chance at Oscars

Best Song winner Marketa Irglova speaks on behalf of indie artists

Frames' collaborator gets second chance at Oscars
Frames frontman Glen Hansard and collaborator Marketa Irglova had just won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles last night (February 24) when Irglova was rushed off the stage before she could give her acceptance speech.

Hansard had just finished his brief speech, saying, "Make art," and Irglova had stepped up to the microphone when the orchestra music swelled -- a sign that their time was up.

After the show returned from a commercial break, host Jon Stewart did a rare thing and invited Irglova to come back to the stage to say a few words. The 19-year-old Czech singer proceeded to speak out in support of independent musicians, saying:

"This is such a big deal, not only for us but for all other independent musicians and artists who spend most of their time struggling.

"The fact that we're standing here tonight is proof that no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible...Hope connects us all, no matter how different we are."

The duo won the Oscar for their song 'Falling Slowly' from the independent musical film 'Once'.
