Bono texts congratulations to Oscar-winner Hansard

He says it was 'like getting a text off the King of the Tribe'

Irish singerGlen Hansard has spoken about his win at last night’s Academy Awards, and revealed he even had a congratulatory text from Bono.

Speaking to RTE radio presenter John Murray, Hansard said:

“What was really amazing for me was getting texts from family and friends, it was amazing beforehand, and then I got a text from Bono and I was like 'Ah, my God, that's just amazing.' For me it was just like getting a text off the King of the Tribe."

Hansard and partner Markéta Irglová won the Oscar for Best Original Song for ‘Falling Slowly’ from the hit indie movie ‘Once’.

He also revealed the pair plan to tour the US in the near future, but put the kibosh on any more movie roles for now.

"We'll probably do a bit of a tour over here in America in the next couple of months. I'd like to think we'll play a few gigs in Ireland... but basically getting back to music. I mean, acting's not really my thing."

Hansard previously starred as one of The Commitments in the 1991 Alan Parker movie of the same name. He is best known in Ireland as the frontman of The Frames.

In Other News – Milan Baros has texted congratulations to Once star Marketa Irglova after her song co-written with Glen Hansard won an Oscar on Sunday.

Clearly delighted, Irglova commented “This is such an honour, to receive this from the second most famous Czech in the Premier League really bowled me over. I’ve been a massive fan since Baros scored twice to beat Bolton away in 2002.”
