Pixies to reunite for new album?

'It makes sense,' says Black Francis

Pixies frontman Black Francis has once more told NME.COM that a new album from the band is a distinct possibility.

Ever since the indie legends reunited for a world tour in 2004, rumours have been flying about whether the band would record a new album.

In June 2004, the legendary alternative band released a new download-only single, 'Bam Thwok', but a full-length album did not follow, despite the tremendous success of their world tour.

Frontman Black Francis told NME.COM this week, as he did in 2006, that he has not ruled out the possibility that his band will reconvene to record a new album, which would be their first since 1991's 'Trompe Le Monde'.

"It's just a waiting game right now," Francis said. "Whatever we do in the future is gonna have to be fresh.

"I have to see if the band as a whole wants to go into the recording studio for a new record," he added. "That makes sense on some level. For us, there's gotta be an angle. It can't be just playing our old songs over and over."

Francis is currently touring the world in support of his recent solo albums 'Svn Fngrs' and 'Bluefinger'.

Heyy this would be so awesome, Pixies are immense and im sure anything that they write would be deserving of an Album. Hopefully it will reveal themselves to a generation who dont know their awesomeness, who think Nirvana are the shit. Wait till they hear Pixies :)

Don't do it. Leave the past in the past...

Some reformations work (see Jane's Addiction, Killing Joke) others don't. I would hope that they do convene and see how things work out. If they work, great, cannot wait to hear it. If they feel it doesn't work, then no. But I cannot help wondering, given how 'alternative' grew in success, whether they had stayed together in 1991 this might have produced more successful albums. Have seen them live twice since they reformed and rocked. Let's see how it works on record.
