Frank Ocean is being sued over the production credits for his track 'Lost', which appeared on his 2012 album 'Channel Orange'.
All Hip Hop reports that producer and songwriter Micah Otano has filed a lawsuit against Ocean, record label Def Jam and producer Malay after alleging that the song is a copy of his track 'Daylight'.
Otano filed his suit earlier this week (March 6) in a US District Court in California, and claims that he originally co-wrote the track 'Daylight' with Malay. He alleges that Malay then copied the track and re-named it 'Lost' when it subsequently appeared on Ocean's LP. Otano is now seeking an unspecified amount of compensation for back royalties and damages.
Released last year, 'Channel Orange' garnered widespread critical acclaim and topped 2012's 'Best of' album lists. HMV's Poll of Polls used the results from NME's Best Album of 2012 list alongside data from other publications, including The Guardian, The Times, BBC, Mojo, Music Week, the Evening Standard, Rolling Stone and more, to come up with the ultimate 'Best of' list for the year.
Last month, Ocean revealed that he is now working on his follow-up album with collaborators including Pharrell Williams and Tyler, The Creator. Speaking on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show, he said: "I'm like 10, 11 songs into this next thing. It's another cohesive thing bordering on a concept album again. At the end of 'Channel Orange' there's 'Golden Girl' and I kind of want to extend that feeling into the next record."
Ocean is also believed to have recorded a track for the album with Depeche Mode's Martin Gore and The Knife producer Christopher Berg. Gore's bandmate Dave Gahan said: "Martin and Christoffer Berg ended up doing a track with him, which I think is going to be part of his new record. Martin did some electronics and some modular synthesizer stuff he really wanted."
The singer recently picked up a Brit Award for Best International Male, and also won a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album for 'Channel Orange'.
