Frank Ocean and Grimes are among the musicians set to be honoured at this year's Webby Awards, the 17th annual event honouring excellence on the internet.

The awards honour individuals and companies who have made an impression on the internet in the last 12 months and 'Channel Orange' singer Ocean will be handed the awarded for Webby Person Of The Year when at the May 21 ceremony in New York. Ocean caught the committee's attention in 2012 when he opened up about his relationship with a male friend on his blog.

Meanwhile, Grimes will also receive an award after being named Artist Of The Year by Webby. The Canadian artist, also known as Claire Boucher, is an active user of social media and recently hit out at sexism in the music industry via her Tumblr.

Other winners due to be handed Webby Awards in May include Justin Bieber, for the social media campaign surrounding the launch of his fragrance, and best celebrity-fan social presence winner Lady Gaga. Netflix series House Of Cards, the first series to be launched exclusively via the streaming media site, will also be honoured alongside other winners Jerry Seinfeld and HBO Go while GIF file inventor Steve Wilhite also will be honored with a lifetime achievement award.

The Webby Awards will be hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt with acceptance speeches limited to just five words.
