[/a] frontman ALEX KAPRANOS insists the band's forthcoming single 'MICHAEL' is not about a gay relationship, but about a debauched warehouse party the band once attended in GLASGOW.

The track includes references to "beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor" and "stubble on my sticky lips", but Kapranos says it's a more general tale regarding the whole evening.

Kapranos told gay lifestyle magazine Boyz that the Michael in question was proud of the namecheck. But he refused to name the other man involved, because his girlfriend was "jealous".

"It was a very debauched night and these two friends got it together in a very sexy way."

'Michael' is released on August 16. [a] are currently winging their way round the summer festivals, and they play the Carling Weekend: Reading And Leeds over the weekend of August 27-29.
