Friendly Fires have outlined their plan to make a second album inspired by samba, calypso and Brazilian music.

The indie-dance combo have been regularly joined by a Brazilian-style band at their live shows – including at the Shockwaves NME Awards earlier this year – and now they say they want the influence to dominate the follow-up to their 2008 self-titled debut.

"It's that samba, calypso vibe that's been pushed further," singer Ed MacFarlane told BBC News. "It's a progression from (single) 'Jump In The Pool'. It's really Brazilian. There's no 4/4 drum beats, it's all traditional samba rhythms.

Speaking specifically of the samba influence, he added: "It's something that we've been experimenting with and we really like. It's something a bit different from just doing more traditional disco-inspired music."
