Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch has teamed up with Friendly Fires to appear on their Late Night Tales compilation album.

The actor lends his voice to a spoken-word track titled 'Flat of Angles', which is based on a story written by author and poet Simon Cleary. You can listen to a snippet of the album below, which also includes tracks by Cocteau Twins and SBTRKT.

According to the Independent, the band personally approached Cumberbatch to appear on the album and, as he is a fan of their music, he agreed. A source told the newspaper that there is a "mutual love" between band and actor.

Meanwhile, Cleary revealed that when he first met up with the actor to record his part he mistakenly called him Ben. "He was very friendly," he added. "And he really got into the subtleties in the text I didn't realise was there."

The story relates to the aftermath of a house party, using alternating voices. The Independent also report that while we don't hear Cumberbatch sing on the record, he does rap some Prodigy lyrics.

The album, released next month, is the latest in the series of Late Night Tales compilations, which have previously been helmed by Arctic Monkeys and The Flaming Lips among others.
