Fun Lovin Criminals' Huey Morgan apologises to Lauren Laverne after 'fake' rant
Singer attacked fellow BBC 6 Music DJ after losing out at industry awards bash
Morgan criticised the former Kenickie frontwoman on his Twitter page earlier this week following the Sony Radio Academy Awards, where Lavern picked up a silver award in the Music Radio Personality category. Morgan called Laverne – along with other BBC DJs Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton – "suckers".
Morgan, who has been covering for Laverne on the station, continued: "You got no idea what I put into my shows. She [Laverne] just shows up and plays on Twitter. Ain't that BS? I am the people’s champ, don't need no award. Y'all know how it be.”
After Laverne responded by asking Morgan to "stop being weird", he deleted his tweets and issued an apology, stating: "I was a big fat baby last night & ungentlemanly. Mea culpa."
A spokesman for the BBC confirmed in a statement that Huey had been asked to explain his comments, remarking: "Due to the nature of Huey's comments, he was spoken to by Radio 2/Radio 6 Music management."
The Sony Radio Academy Awards was hosted by Evans, who scooped Music Radio Personality of the Year ahead of Laverne.
Best Music Programme was won by Cotton on BBC Radio 1, beating In:Demand Scotland on Bauer Radio Scotland and In Tune on BBC Radio 3. Other nominees in the category included Steve Lamacq for BBC Radio 6 Music and Michael Bublé for Magic 105.4. Meanwhile, Cotton's show was praised by judges for being "an excellent blend of the best new and live music, audience interaction and event coverage."
