DRUNK IN CHARGE

After hiatus and solo career for James Johnstone, Gallon Drunk return with album, gigs and film soundtrack...

Gallon Drunk return with their first live UK shows for over a year and a half to mark the release of a new EP, 'Blood Is Red', on October 18 and new album, 'Black Milk', on November 22 through FM Records.

It had been thought that the band would not continue after frontman James Johnston announced his intentions to concentrate on his solo career as JJ Stone last year.

The new album is named after forthcoming Greek film Black Milk by director Nikos Triandafyllidis which Gallon Drunk have written the music for and appear in. It's not yet known whether the film - described as a black comedy - will get a UK release.

The band have also written the soundtrack to a new documentary film East End, which features a song by Nick Cave and actress Miriam Margolyes narrating.

Johnston told NME: "The film's weird because it's been filmed on Super-8, then blown up to IMAX size. You usually see dinosaurs and films of Everest at that size. It's a small film gone huge."

East End, based around the Tower Hamlets area of London, has already been shown in New York and features in next month's London Film Festival.

Gallon Drunk, who now feature new member Jeremy Cottingham on bass alongside Terry Edwards on trumpet, Ian White on drums and Joe Byfield on maracas, play:

Norwich Arts Centre (October 18) Brighton Pressure Point (19) Nottingham Old Vic (20) Leeds Wardrobe (22) Liverpool Lomax (23) Glasgow 13th Note (24) Manchester Planet K (25) Bristol Fiddlers (26) London Camden Dingwalls (28) Birmingham Flapper (29)
