Steph Carter has five stiches on head

Gallows guitarist Steph Carter was taken to hospital last night (May 17) following their opening night performance at The Great Escape festival in Brighton.

As previously reported after the first song 'In The Belly Of A Shark' his brother and vocalist Frank told the crowd his "head was sliced open from his own guitar".

The guitarist left the stage, visibly bleeding. He then returned, only to be seen to by someone who attended to his head on stage.

Speaking about the incident the guitarist told NME.COM: “I've got a bit of a headache this morning but I'm OK!”

Carter said that he went to find a first aid person after the gig finished.

The star recalled: ”He said, 'I think you're going to be alright.' Then he went to put some antiseptic on the cut. He brushed away my hair and was like 'Oh shit! You've got to go to hospital!'”

“So I jumped in a cab with Frank and I saw a doctor. I had to have five stitches in my head. To be honest, I'm really surprised any of us haven't got hurt before, because of the way we play. But I glad I could finish the set.”

The band are playing Brighton's The Zap Club tonight (May 18). Check out our regular coverage, including our special live blog, coming straight from the south coast.
