Gallows: 'We didn't want to get a singer who was similar to Frank Carter'
Band also say Wade MacNeil is 'fucking nuts'
The Watford punks named former Alexisonfire guitarist Wade MacNeil as their new singer yesterday (August 9) ending weeks of speculation about who replace Carter.
Speaking to Kerrang!, guitarist Laurent 'Lags' Barnard said of the band's decision to recruit MacNeil:
We had a few people in mind, but we didn't want to get somebody who was really similar to Frank. That was one of things we were wary of. At the end of the day, Frank was a great part of what we are and we didn't want a copyist who couldn't do the role justice. We played with Wade last year and he was amazing. We've always got on well with him and he's fucking nuts and probably one of the most punk guys I know. If anyone has any doubts about Wade, we're just going to let the music do the talking.
MacNeil himself added that he had no intention of following in Carter's footsteps and had made that clear to the band before he agreed to join.
I told the band I wasn't going to join if they wanted me to be Frank's replacement. I'm not interested in replacing anybody. I want us to be even more brutal. It's not something I'm taking lightly. I want to build on the legacy this band has by throwing myself fully into it. I want to make some music that's just fucking vicious sounding.
Gallows have also announced their first UK show with MacNeil on vocals. The band will headline London's XOYO on December 13.
