ECHO OF THE BINNYMEN! Garbage Tickets
[a]Garbage[/a] have announced a string of new dates, aswell as details of some on-the-road recording...
Garbage have lined up a string of UK arena dates in January. After which, says the band's Butch Vig, they plan to concentrate on creating music for two film soundtracks. The shows promise to be substantially different from the gigs the band played in the UK earlier this year.
"We might start using more film and video projections," Vig told NME. "We're thinking of adding a string player and cello player, too, instead of relying on keyboards." The band will play acoustic versions of 'Medication', 'Thirteen' and 'The Trick Is To Keep Breathing'. The shows take place at Belfast King's Hall (January 15), Birmingham NEC (17), London Wembley Arena (20), Manchester Evening News Arena (22) and Glasgow SECC (23). Tickets are on sale now from NME's 24-hour ticketline on 0870-1212 500.
Meanwhile, Garbage are planning to work with director David Lynch on his latest project which, Vig says, is shrouded in secrecy. They've also been approached by Apollo 13 director Ron Howard to create the music for his next film. "We're getting a lot of offers for film soundtracks," says Vig. "A lot of things we're doing are quite orchestral. We're moving away from pop songs. We've got a few trailers at the moment. The Ron Howard movie (currently without a title) is about a guy who lives his life in the media but is not aptly suited to deal with it. It's a similar idea to The Truman Show."
Finally, the band are recording new material in the back of the bus while on tour in America. "It's hard, 'cos it's kinda noisy. You have to put headphones on and crank them up loud, Vig said. "You can't really do vocals and you get jostled around. But I'm sure something will come out of it."
