Listen to an advance preview of Garbage’s ‘Not Your Kind of People’ exclusively on NME.COM – audio

The band's new album is officially released on May 14

Garbage release their new album ‘Not Your Kind Of People’, their first since 2005’s ‘Bleed Like Me’, on their own imprint Stunvolume on May 14.

Scroll down to listen to an advance preview of the album a week before its official release, exclusively via NME. Recorded in Atwater Village in Los Angeles, it’s the group’s first album not to be recorded in Madison, Wisconsin, the city where they formed in 1994.

Frontwoman Shirley Manson said to NME that the band are self-releasing the album, because: “We really didn’t like the way our career was handled by our record label. We thought ‘We’re not going to deal with jackasses anymore, we’re not going to allow outside forces to strip what we love to do’. So we didn’t. We did not want to allow tasteless people to curate our career.”

When asked if the return of Garbage felt part of the 1990s revival, she said: “Well, what’s strange is that we’ve never fit in with any scene, we were always outsiders. We never fit into any movement, we were never a hipster band and we were never an ‘electronic’ band. So I don’t feel part of these islands of revival.”

Garbage will play London’s Troxy venue on Wednesday (May 9), followed by a short UK tour in July.

Garbage play:

London Troxy (May 9)
London O2 Academy Brixton (July 1)
Wolverhampton Civil Hall (2)
Manchester Academy (3)
Glasgow Barrowlands (4)
