Gary Glitter to return to the UK on Tuesday (August 19)
Shamed former glam rocker Gary Glitter is set to return to the UK on Tuesday (August 19), when he will be deported from Vietnam.

Glitter is set to leave the prison he has been contained in since 2006 after serving 27 months in jail for child molestation, reports BBC News.

Glitter's lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh, claimed that his client would be free to go wherever he pleased on his return to the UK. However, although they didn't comment on Glitter specifically, a spokesperson for the Home Office said things may not be so simple.

The spokesperson said: "When it is known that a sex offender convicted in another country is to be deported to the UK, he is met at the port of entry by police who interview him and pass any relevant information to the police in the area in which the offender is proposing to live.

"Offenders convicted of sexual offences whether in the UK or overseas may be monitored under multi-agency public protection arrangements."
