[a]Gary Glitter[/a] appeared in court on child sex and porngraphy charges yesterday...

Gary Glitter appeared in court yesterday (Thursday, September 10) to answer 111 child sex charges - including the assault of two girls and collecting child pornography.

Glitter (54), denied all charges at the magistrate's court in Yate, near Bristol. The '70s glam superstar, real name Paul Gadd, is also in court today (Friday, September 11).

After saluting photographers and onlookers, Glitter was whisked away in a red Mercedes driven by a friend. The Daily Mirror UK tabloid newspaper reported angry scenes as the star was driven off, with one man arrested after throwing a drink can at the vehicle.

Glitter was arrested in November, following the discovery of pornographic photos on the hard disk of a computer he took in to be repaired at a PC World store in Bristol. He was charged with the offences in March. Two charges relate to alleged assaults of underage girls claimed to have taken place between 1975 and 1981. One of the girls is reported to have been aged only eight when the alleged assault took place.

Glitter was said to be relaxed during his appearance, with his lawyer entering a not guilty plea to all charges.
