Star admits charge on first day of trial

George Michael has pleaded guilty to drug driving after an incident in north London.

Michael pleaded guilty on the first day of the trial at Brent Magistrates Court.

As previously reported Michael was arrested in north London on October 1 last year on suspicion of being unfit to drive and for possession of substance believed to be cannabis. He was later cautioned by police for possession.

The trial started today (May 8) and saw Michael attend. Speaking directly to Judge Katherine Marshall he said: "I did something very stupid and I am very ashamed since doing it. I'm not used to defending myself in a position where I am ashamed of something.

"I really have been very distressed by this whole thing. I am perfectly aware that I did something very wrong and got into my car when I was unfit to drive.

"I was not in my normal physical state and I'm perfectly prepared to accept the correct punishment for that."

Michael is expected back in court on May 30, May 31 and June 8, reports BBC.
