Gerry Rafferty 'extremely well' and living in Tuscany

'Baker Street' singer issues a statement proving he's not missing

Gerry Rafferty has confirmed that he is not missing, telling fans he is living happily in Tuscany writing his next album.

The singer's family and friends had earlier this week revealed their concern for Rafferty, who they said had not been in contact for over six months.

Yesterday (February 17), Rafferty's spokesman countered the claims by saying his client was alive and well, although he refused to comment further.

In a statement given to Channel 4 News, Rafferty's solicitors have now given further details of his whereabouts.

"Contrary to reports, Gerry is extremely well and has been living in Tuscany for the last six months," the statement said.

"At his house there, which is situated just north of Florence, he continues to compose and record new songs and music. He would like to send a personal thank-you to all of his fans who have expressed their concern for his wellbeing, and he hopes to release a new album of his most recent work in the summer of this year."

Rafferty formed Stealers Wheel in 1972, although his biggest success came with his 1978 hit 'Baker Street', which he released as a solo artist. He has battled alcohol addiction throughout his adult life.
