Gil Scott-Heron will release his first new studio album since 1994 next year.

The political poet and singer will release 'I'm New Here' in early 2010, with a release date yet to be confirmed. Snippets from four of the album's songs, 'A.M.', 'I'm New Here', 'Me And The Devil' and 'I'll Take Care Of You', can be heard now at the official website for the album, Imnewhere.net.

The album was recorded in New York over the past 18 months following his 2007 release from jail on parole for drug-related charges.

Scott-Heron has recently been working on a book, 'The Last Holiday', which is yet to be published.
