Christopher Owen is leaving his band Girls.

In statement on the website of Girls' label Turnstile Owens attributes his departure to personal reasons. The statement reads:

This may come as a surprise to many & has been an issue of much thought for me. My decision was not easy to make. I am leaving Girls. My reasons at this time are personal. I need to do this in order to progress. I will continue to write & record music. More will be announced soon. I thank you all for everything.

Girls were comprised of Owens and bassist Chet "JR" White. Their debut album, 2009's 'Album' was followed by the EP 'Broken Dreams Club' in 2011 and most recently 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost'. You can read NME's review of 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost' here.

Girls played their biggest ever UK headline show at London's HMV Forum on May 28.
