CHERYL TWEEDY has been found guilty of one of the two assault charges she has been on trial for this afternoon (October 20).
A jury at Kingston Crown Court found the Girls Aloud singer guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against nightclub toilet attendant Sophie Amogbokpa.
Earlier today she was found not guilty of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Had she been found guilty of that charge, the maximum penalty would have been seven years. Instead, the maximum is five, according to Sky News. However, she escaped jail - the star has been sentenced to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and must also pay her victim £500 compensation. Tweedy must also pay £3,000 of prosecution costs.
The 20-year-old singer had always denied calling Amogbokpa a "black bitch", but had admitted punching her in self-defence during the altercation that took place on January 11.
The incident took place following an argument over some lollipops on display outside the venue’s toilets.
