GIRLS ON TOP
But there's disappointment for Destiny's Child on the album countdown...
Girls Aloud have gone straight to the top of the UK singles chart today (November 21) with their cover of ‘I’ll Stand By You’ knocking U2 off the perch after just a week on top.
The Irish supergroup drop to number seven this week beneath a host of other new entries including former reality TV star Lemar - in at three with ‘If There’s Any Justice’ - while Gwen Stefani sees her debut solo single ‘What You Waiting For’ enter at four, one ahead of McFly whose ‘Room On The Floor’ goes in at five. Jojo with ‘Baby It’s You’ taking at bow at number eight, is the only other new entry on the top 10.
A resurgent Embrace just miss out on their second consecutive top 10, seeing ‘Ashes’ chart at 11, up ahead of White Stripes with their cover of ‘Jolene’ at 16, Paul Weller at 18 with ‘Thinking Of You’ while I Dream make up the final new place on the top 20, entering at 19 with ‘Dreaming’.
There are a rash of the other new entries on the rest of the 40 including Avril Lavigne, Fabolous, Anastacia and The Thrills - who will be very disappointed with ‘Not For All The Love In The World’ entering at 39.
On the album charts, there is major disappointment for Destiny’s Child whose much anticipated new album ‘Destiny Fulfilled’ makes a poor showing entering at number five. But at least they are ahead of the retiring Blue whose greatest hits moves in at six. Eminem remains immovable at the top of the chart.
