Returned Glasto tickets now sold out

Thousands of returned tickets to this year's Glastonbury Festival sold in about two-and-a-half hours this morning.

An estimated 20,000 unwanted or cancelled tickets sold out by telephone booking by about 1130 BST. The tickets came from those that were returned, or where payments were declined, from the initial onsale day on April 1. Then, 137,000 tickets were snapped up in less that two hours.

Today's tickets were only available to those who had registered in advance of the April 1 sales day. In a bid to beat touts, organisers had insisted that all those registering for tickets supplied photo IDs. Over 400,000 fans applied to be able to get tickets for the Worthy Farm event.

A festival spokesman told the BBC they were "relieved" at the way today's sale went.

"We can now look forward to June 1 when the line-up will be announced," they added

Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, The Who, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks and Shirley Bassey will appear at the festival, which runs from 22-24 June.
