Glastonbury Festival founder gets CBE from The Queen

And her majesty asks Michael Eavis about the mud

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis has collected his CBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace – and she asked him about the bash’s infamous mudbaths.

Eavis, 72, said he was "thrilled" to receive the award, and revealed the Queen was well informed when it came to asking about how his farm’s fields regularly get churned up due to bad weather at the bash.

He told the BBC: "I said it's a very lovely farm and was looking splendid now. She said 'Good.'"

Eavis first staged the festival at his Somerset farm in 1970 – it was then known as the Pilton Festival and was attended by 1,500 people.

This year's Glastonbury Festival, which suffered from problems with flooding for the third time in a row, was attended by 170,000.

Next year’s bash takes place between June 27 and 29.
