Glastonbury festival 2008 headliners announced

Glastonbury 2007

Glastonbury 2007

Find out who is joining Jay-Z at Worthy Farm

Jay-Z, The Verve and Kings Of Leon will headline this June’s Glastonbury festival.

According to Q magazine - the event's media partner - Kings Of Leon will headline the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night of the festival (June 27), with Jay-Z performing on the Saturday (June 28) and The Verve closing the festival on the Sunday (June 29).

Speaking to NME.COM co-organiser Emily Eavis declared: "We are over the moon about these acts playing, all of which bring something completely different to Glastonbury. Kings Of Leon have played at Glastonbury several times, from starting in the new bands tent a few years back. They are one of the most exciting live bands around, and this feels like their moment to finally headline the pyramid. We see the Kings Of Leon as part of the great heritage of Friday night headliners Radiohead, Coldplay, The White Stripes. They're ready to make that leap as well.

The Verve are an all-time classic Glastonbury band. I saw them recently at The Roundhouse (in north London) and they were amazing. Jay-Z is gonna be historical, and we feel honored that he is coming all the way over to play our show."

Other acts already confirmed to play include Leonard Cohen, Hot Chip, Neil Diamond and British Sea Power.

Fans can currently register for tickets on the official Glastonbury website, after which they will be eligible to buy tickets on April 6. See our guide to getting hold of Glastonbury tickets for all you need to know about registering.

Everyone's complaining but I can't think of a much better headline trio.
Personally not what I'd have picked but they are varied and I don't think anyone can dispute they are all big enough and successful enough to headline.
I'm just a bit gutted I can't afford Glasto.

Where the hell are Radiohead??? They basically asked Micheal Eavis to play saying "we've left the weekend free" and we'll "be there either playing or not". Poor poor descisions micheal, the headliners sound like they're for the reading festival or V not Glastonbury!

in the past i always felt that glastonbury was a bout setting the bar and showing other festivals the great acts they could get to play.Taking nothing away from any of the headliners, this looks like very average at best headliners.Last year was much the same, with killers and arctics playing most of the festivals and the who having played T in the park the year before and it was nothing groundbreaking,I really think that either glastonbury is getting weaker or that the other festivals are catching up with it,The Police who are headlining IOW are bigger than these bands and I think Glasto missed a trick by not booking them to headline.

Kings Of Leon will be awesome and i think everyone should've known that The Verve would headline from the moment of the reunion last year. Great choice for two of headliners....Jay-Z though??? He'll be having his wellie boots diamond encrusted like Dame Shirley Bassey...

I'm glad they've announced the Headliners early this year. Perhaps not so many will want to go now they know the crap that's there - more chance of a ticket for me.

the verve are amazing live, absolutely blew me away first time round, and last year at the 02!

they are a real glastonbury band, the spirit, the vibe and the music...

wern't we all saying that kings of leon should of headlined reading and leeds instead of razorlight last year, they are an amazing band and can sell out stadium shows easily. The verve, well its the verve they were going to headline it anyway. Ans it takes some guts to let jay-z headline an event like this and if im honest i think he will pull it off. I think these headliners are great and this years glasto will be aswell

Feb 8, 2008

I was expecting better aswell. But if you knew anything about Glasto you'd know that nobody would ever be bottled off. It's just not that kind of festival. I reckon Jay Z will put on a good show

This will be my first Glasto! but where are the big bands? kings of leon are great!, but not to be a headliner, jay-z? duh! an the verbe, just for respect, but... anyway.

This is the worst line-up for glastonbury ever. Okay kings of leon are good bt not good are enough to headline!
The Verve is jus crap!
N Jay Z well i hope he dies! and gets bottled!

I really wanted to go this year but now the headliners are so bad its not worth the bother

all you people sitting here typing on message boards about how bad the line up is, if you dont like it dont go... i think its a good line up, the verve will do a excellent close, they have some real festival songs... and if you people sitting here rubbishing the verve, i will make a bet that you will get find it impossible not to get caught up in the euphoria of bitter sweet symphony! it is one of the best live songs i have ever witnessed

I am so excited about Glastonbury this year, although i was expecting a better line-up from all the rumours that have been circulating. Jay Z will be incredible, and it will be a year to remember, Kings of Leon are ace but maybe not a headliner for a festival like Glastonbury, The Verve deserve a headlining slot, i really was expecting Radiohead to play tho?

What ever the line-up Glastonbury has never been boring, and will always have different bands and artists for everyone.

If you all don't want to watch any of the headline acts, you're very welcome to come back to my tent for light refreshments and a rollicking good time

what are they going to do next move it to america with 2 of the headlining muscians from there.
people are still going to go though

Personally I think Jay Z will be great, and gives something else other than just bands all the time.
Here is an idea for all you whingers, why dont you go somewhere else, and if Mr Eavis sees a very small crowd for Jay Z then he is unlikely to try it again!

Kings of Leon deserve to be there no doubt, they gave some of the best performances of the festival season last year at Reading and Leeds Festivals. The Verve are legendary and have just finished a hugely successful UK tour. As for Jay-Z its a bit of variation and at least everyone knows the songs thanks to playlists in clubs and on the radio for the past few years. Overall good headliners.

I hear a lot of people complaining about Jay-Z headlining but can someone tell me why booking the biggest hip-hop star in the world is a bad thing?

sanj220782

Feb 10, 2008

Its a better line - up on the pyramid than last year - Arctics on Friday - were ok - Killerszzzzzzzzzz - The Who - absolutely diabolically sh+te. Kings are probably one the best mainstream bands of the decade considering each album has bettered the last (think of another mainstream band that has done the same? Gon then? hmmmn?). And I really cant understand the Jay-Z hate - American Gangster is GENIUS - Indie bandwagon kids - go check out his discog - a true legend. Anyway the Other Stage last year had a much better headline-up

booty64bug

Feb 10, 2008

so many small minded people giving rubbish comments on the line-up. k o l are v worthy of the top slot. the Verve worthy too. jay z why not, better than basement jaxx remember that headline slot.

lienucitis4

Feb 11, 2008

I think MUSE should be the headliner, when they are performing, then always they are the best! No one can MUSE prevail. MUSE are the best on the stage!

What a pants line-up. The Verve are quality, but Kings of Leon as a headliner?? they're good but was expecting bigger. n Jay z can kiss it, Why on earth is he even there??? utter crap, im off to V
