New bands bag Glastonbury slots in competition

Manchester's The Travelling Band and London's The Golden Silvers have been announced as the winners of the Glastonbury New Talent 2008 competition, and are now set to play this year's festival.

The two acts were voted the best of twelve bands who were selected to perform at Pilton Working Men's Club, after festival organisers, including Michael Eavis, judged their demos to be among the best submitted to the competition.

The two bands will now play at Glastonbury in June, with Michael Eavis saying that he was so impressed with the quality of this year's entrants that he may offer "quite a few of them" slots at the festival.

You can listen to both bands at Myspace.com/thetravellingband and myspace.com/thegoldensilvers on their MySpace pages now.

Previous winners include The Subways and Scouting for Girls.
